Why Tins?

The Enemy of Great Olive Oil is Light. We Chose to Fight It.

Up to 40% of polyphenols and volatile aromas in extra virgin olive oil can be destroyed by UV light within weeks of bottling. Most producers choose clear or tinted glass because it looks beautiful on a shelf. We chose something better.

 The Problem With Glass Bottles

Glass — even dark-tinted glass — allows UV and visible light radiation to penetrate and reach the oil inside. This triggers a process called photo-oxidation: a chemical reaction that degrades the polyphenols, breaks down the fatty acids, dulls the fresh aroma, and accelerates rancidity.

The result? An oil that looked perfect in the bottle at purchase but has already silently degraded by the time it reaches your kitchen. You paid for exceptional quality. You received something lesser.

UV Light Protection 100% Blocked Partial or None
Polyphenol Preservation Maximum Degraded Over Time
Aroma & Flavour Stability Preserved At Risk
Shelf Life After Opening Extended Shorter
Carbon Footprint / Litre Lower Higher
Recyclability Infinitely Recyclable Limited Cycles

💡 Three Reasons We Chose the 5L Chef's Reserve Tin

1. ☀️ Zero Light. Zero Compromise.

Our precision-sealed metal tins block 100% of UV and visible light — from the moment of pressing to the moment you pour. Every polyphenol, every antioxidant, every volatile aroma molecule that our family worked to create at harvest is still there when it reaches your kitchen.

2. 🌿 Harvest-Fresh. Every Pour.

The airtight metal seal prevents oxygen infiltration that causes rancidity. Whether it's day one or month twelve, every pour delivers the same bright, peppery, grassy intensity we are proud of. The 5L format means you use it regularly — keeping the oil active and fresh.

3. ♻️ Better for Your Kitchen. Better for the Planet.

Metal tins are infinitely recyclable — they can be melted down and reformed endlessly without quality loss, unlike glass. Over its lifecycle, a 5L tin produces a significantly lower carbon footprint per litre than an equivalent volume of glass bottles. Once empty, your tin can be cleaned and repurposed as a beautiful kitchen container, or simply recycled kerbside.

How to Use Your 5L Chef's Reserve Tin Daily

The 5L tin is designed as your kitchen reserve. We recommend pairing it with a small countertop ceramic or glass decanter (250–500ml) for day-to-day pouring:

  1. Keep your 5L tin sealed and stored in a cool, dark cupboard or pantry.
  2. Fill your countertop decanter weekly from the tin.
  3. Seal the tin immediately after each use to preserve freshness.
  4. The 5-liter format offers an attractive price per liter for high-quality extra virgin olive oil.
"Protecting our olive oil from light is not a packaging decision. It is a quality decision."
